Khadoran Ground-Breaking Machine Breaks Sometimes, Like Today

The power armor rematch went much like the first match did: a violent curbstomping of the guys in bloody red by the guys in sickly green.  In a fit of tactical genius, I completely ignored the strategy I laid out earlier today and instead decided to run around and give EV many opportunities to shoot my poor troops.  The Daemon Princes wrecked shop as expected, but the Vindicators were a non-factor.  Of course there were no Vindicators as EV had replaced them with Obliterators, who tore me up real good.    While my dice were out to lunch, in the end I can only blame lack of fire discipline and changing plans mid-stream.  The Plague Marines are a tough nut, despite what the internets have to say about Chaos Marines, but I'll figure them out eventually.

In happier news, I made a video of this afternoon's massacre.  I've seen video battle reports around and thought I'd give it a shot.  While I like the old fashioned text and picture report it's good to try new things.  I had hoped that there would be a time savings, but between editing and uploading I probably spent about the same amount of time doing the video as I would have writing up a traditional report.  Granted some of that time was spent learning how to use iMovie, and a still unfamiliar Mac, so the process may speed up a bit with repeated attempts.  I had to fight the urge to insert paragraphs into the video, but I'm a writer at heart rather than a director.  Enough of that though, on to the show.

edit: The video has a very few NSFW moments, mostly me cursing dice and models.

Testing Out The Bottle...

It's been trial and error this week with trying to get 7-8 week old Chicklett to take a bottle so that I can have an evening off here and there, and because I'll be having surgery in a few weeks and we want to make sure she'll be fed during the process. We're nice like that. Ha!

I'm a firm believer in drinking straight from the tap, and if I'm going to be gone a few hours I will pump a fresh bottle rather than using frozen. The frozen stash is for extended periods or emergency only.

So far I've gone to the grocery store three times leaving her home and she has yet to take a bottle! Ugh! The first time she actually slept the whole time so Rooster wasn't even able to try it out. But the next two times I've come home to a screaming hungry baby. We've tried two different nipples so far, both Gerber and they fit our glass bottles - what do you recommend for breastfed babies? We've used the one in the picture and then just a standard one that came with the bottles.

One thing I have enjoyed about bottle training Chicklett versus the first time around with Chicken Little is that there is no milk waste! CL is happy to take the pumped milk in a sippy cup! I remember being heartbroken at dumping pumped milk where CL had maybe drank an ounce out of the 4 in a bottle. Pumping is very hard for me, takes about 2-3 pumpings to get a 4 ounce bottle. Knowing that CL is here to clean up the leftovers makes this time much easier.

Now, I know that Meghan and Mama Christa have both given their toddlers pumped milk - does that mean we're all technically tandem nursing? I'm just the only one that does it straight from the tap. During this cold and flu season have you ever thought of giving your toddler/child a booster shot of antibodies and immunities by giving them some pumped milk? Think about it! :)

Enjoy this little video of my son exploring a world of boob in a sippy cup.

We're also working on the pacifier training too. With CL we used a paci from about 4 months old to 11 months old - but only in the car and occasionally overnight. Chicklett has been an absolute nightmare in the car, so she's gonna need that car paci. Pulling over, taking her out of the car seat, nursing her, and getting her back in the car seat in freezing weather is not going to happen. Not to mention, during warmer fall weather this proved ineffective anyway because 2 minutes back into driving she would be screaming again. Rather than leave her to scream I would much rather let her have the comfort of something to suck on. CL often used it to suck on for just a few minutes and then he'd fall asleep. Much healthier experience if you ask me! So far we've tried 4 different paci's with Chicklett. All of them gagging her. I remember it taking some time for CL to figure out how to use them, so for now I will keep retrying the different types we have and hope that she figures it out soon.

The Normalizing Nursing in Public League (The NNIPL)

Little did I know how strong my feelings would become on a mothers right to feed her child anywhere until a friend was harassed at a local restaurant. I somehow had never heard of anyone being harassed before, and even after nursing my own child for over 18 months I had never experienced negativity. Her situation was a huge eye opener for me, and it turned out not to be an isolated incident. Once I got into the mainstream it seemed like these stories were happening everywhere and everyday! That's when I had to start up the NNIPL group on Facebook. I felt the strong urge to share stories of positive and negative experiences of family's breast feeding in public. Very quickly our 1000+ fan base let me know that I was not alone in wanting to rally together and support each other.

Check your state laws to know your rights! These statutes are there to protect a mother from being charged with indecent exposure or other violations, and if you live in a state that has no protection this DOES NOT mean it is illegal for you to breastfeed in public. It just means you are not excluded from some jerk ruining your day. If you are harassed, don't let it slide! File a report with First Right to make sure the next mom does not have to go through what you did. Taking a stand is not always easy, but it is always the right thing to do.

One of my favorite (giant eye roll of sarcasm) arguments is the "why can't you just cover up" one. Well, guess what folks... covered or uncovered you can't see anything unless you are trying darn hard to look. I called for a contest of fans to upload videos showing just how hard it is to cover up when your child does not want it, and this is one of my favorite videos by Kind of a Hippie Mom. Cracks me right up! Way funnier than my video;

Please join the NNIPL revolution on Facebook. You can purchase NNIPL-wear at two different Cafe Press shops. The first one is for logo only gear and the second one has slogans and other exciting things.
